Story : Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker present Peter Sellars’s staging of Bach’s St Matthew Passion for the first time in the UK. It’s a work that confronts suffering and torture as well as salvation and redemption in some of Bach’s most moving music. Mark Padmore’s Evangelist leads a starry cast that also includes celebrated German baritone Christian Gerhaher.
